Story of Abda's Name |
My brother Jim and I went to Cartersville
Georgia to find out about our Collins family.
We went to Oak Hill Cemetery
in Cartersville, Georgia
and met the cemetery head grounds keeper to find the Collins graves. He
knew exactly where they were and took us to them. For some reason he felt
like he wanted to explain where my Grandfather got his name Abda. It has
always been a strange name to me and I was wondering how this man would know.
He told us that he believes his name came from a Confederate Colonel named Abda
Johnson and he showed us his grave. To me it made some sense since he was the only other Abda I
have ever heard of. To make it even stranger, their graves are right
across from each other.
Another name story is that Abda's brother was named Charlie Collins, who Abda named his first born after. Charlie Collins named his first born Abda Collins, but he died as a child.
